The ZenFone series, which was previously released by ASUS, sees a trend of larger screens on its smartphones. So the new ZenFone 5, which boasts a 6.2-inch screen, looks like the iPhone X with a 5.8-inch screen. Besides the large screen and ultra-thin body, what else the outstanding performances? You can have a preliminary understanding of the following spec sheet.

- 90% screen-to-body ratio, premium UI interface
- Rear-mounted fingerprint recognition, safe and unique
ZenFone 5 comes to a 6.2-inch size screen, with a resolution of 2246*1080, where ASUS utilizes the LCD panel inclined to be a cold tone. The blue light filter is good for eye care.
The Corning Gorilla Glass is used for best screen protection. As mentioned above, it performs an all screen display, with a 90% ratio of the whole body.
Then turning to the back, there’s kind of brilliant texture and marked with the vivid ASUS character hidden under the looming 2.5D glass. The punchline lies in the circular fingerprint reader above the middle. And I think this appearance is quite similar to ZenFone3.
As for the color choices, it is available in two colors- midnight blue and meteor silver- quite matching for your personal preference. No matter what color, it is stunning and drizzles in the sun to stand out in the crowd.
- AI photography with versatile modes
- PixelMaster Camera provides super resolution
Of course, this time the rear camera has been moved once again to become a straight-line configuration in the upper left corner, while the flashlight is not sandwiched between the two lenses, but is independent below. Mostly, if you set up the facial unlocking technology, you won’t use this fingerprint reader much.
The two lenses are a combination of telephoto and wide-angle, with the anti-shake former being 12MP; the latter is 8MP.
It is worth noting that the main rear camera, supported by AI Technology, has multiple functions including AI photo learning, real-time portrait, and real-time beautification.
The most typical one is the Asus version of Animoji, called Zenimoji. Because of the lack of TrueDepth camera support, compared with Animoji, there is a difference in the accuracy of movement performance. But as play tools as a whole, it is still commendable, and it also can apply to a video or live show. It basically replaces the front camera output and makes it has more abundant than Animoji’s playability.
- AI Learning System
- Smart Facial Screen on
- 64GB Running Memory Makes it Smooth and Faster to Operate.
- Auto Color Temperature Adjustment
The ZenFone 5 is equipped with a Snapdragon 636 processor, which has the ability to train and execute machine learning models on this phablet. Asus also really applied this machine learning to some of the mobile phone functions. For example, its scene detection is not just a traditional simple color brightness analysis, but it really adds the ASUS self-prepared object recognition machine learning model, allowing the mobile phone to more accurately determine the current 16 preset types. Furthermore, after taking a picture, the phone will propose an effect filter that can be applied, and according to your favorite or not, to learn about prospective filter selected for a particular scene, to meet your taste.
As facial recognition software gets more and more sophisticated, it will also become more and more affordable – appearing on many of our electronic devices. Though the argument against using facial recognition software is that it is too easy to “fool” the software into thinking you are the owner. It’s still convenient to use, plays the same roles with the rear fingerprint reader to screen on, compared to import your password.
Thanks to its AI charging, Asus BoostMaster technology makes incredibly faster charging in case of low power. ZenFone introduces AI-powered intelligent charging that maximizes your battery’s lifespan and provides overall protection.
Pros & Cons
Facial Recognition Screen on
Edge-to-edge Screen Display
AI Technology for Detection and Faster Charging
Gorgeous Appearance with Dual Rear Cameras
Weak Sensitivity of Zenimoji
ZenFone 5 utilizes the fullscreen display and better ratio equipment to immerse you the cinema effect. It also applies the AI technology to notch up to the higher user experience in the braze of the smartphone. But Asus is still on the way to achieve the complete AI technology, thus it needs time to improve the sensitivity.
